Chicago, Illinois – 9 February, 2017 – Recent developments in the beverage industry have encouraged manufacturers to find innovative ways to help drive sales. Like most industries, the beverage industry has seen an increasing trend of health and wellness products, and with varying packaging types, sizes and product requirements, staying on top of consumer preferences is becoming an ever more difficult task for beverage manufacturers and packaging designers. Therefore, Videojet Technologies Inc., a global leader in coding, marking and printing solutions, has developed the Beverage Hub. The Beverage Hub provides manufacturers with a reliable and comprehensive source of information to help them meet changing coding and labelling requirements. It will also provide application support and educational documentation such as white papers, customer success stories, application videos and regulatory info graphics.

Printing best-by dates, lot codes and other information onto the package is an essential task for beverage manufacturers, as retailers look at this information to assist them with stock rotation, and consumers use this information to check for product freshness. However, printing the required information is not as straightforward as it sounds. Chirag Sheth, Vertical Marketing Manager for Beverage at Videojet says: “Different flavors, packaging and nutritional requirements all add coding complexity to a beverage manufacturer. There are many factors that must be considered when selecting the right type of coding equipment for a specific beverage production line. With this in mind, an important role of the coding supplier is to help manufacturers select the type of printer ideally suited to the production setup, as well as to provide the necessary tools to audit and enforce anti-counterfeit and diversion activities throughout the supply chain.”

Customizable coding solutions are also helping manufacturers in the beverage industry directly connect with consumers with the application of intelligent variable codes on their products. By linking valuable demographic data to specific purchases, manufacturers can push their target marketing efforts to a whole new level. Sheth continues: “We appreciate the trends that are changing the way beverage manufacturers of all sizes are behaving. With the Beverage Hub, it is our aim to make it as simple as possible by providing relevant information they need in a language they can relate to – all in one location.”

Videojet introduces new pink UV fluorescent ink to drive productivity

Videojet develops an ink for dual-purpose applications requiring both machine readable fluorescent and human readable codes

Wood Dale, Illinois. February 23, 2017 – Fluorescing UV inks offer a number of advantages, including high print quality, improved durability and enhanced productivity. Fluorescing UV ink is only visible under UV lighting, satisfying the need for a robust but invisible solution, allowing discrete codes and brand information to be tracked through the supply chain.

With over 40 years of ink development experience, Videojet Technologies Inc., a global leader in coding, marking and printing solutions, has launched an innovative new pink fluorescent ink designed to deliver machine readable and visually distinctive codes on multi-coloured substrates. The new ink offers unique code properties to enable automated product validation and to assure correct product routing throughout the supply chain. These features help to drive increased productivity and enhanced uptime.

The new V539 ink contains a unique set of fluorescent dyes and visible dyes, combined to provide machine readable and human readable codes on a wide variety of coloured substrates, such as caps, pre-printed labels and decorated products. The fluorescent ink produces a red, light emitting fluorescent code when illuminated by a UV light source, and the fast illumination response time means that codes can be read and captured on high-speed production lines directly after printing. In addition, the ink produces a human-visible pink colour, making it easier to perform quick visual quality checks.

Sherry Washburn, Business Unit Manager, Supplies, at Videojet explains “The pink fluorescent ink was formulated for dual-purpose applications that require both machine readable and human readable codes. The ink works through ultraviolet illumination that excites the fluorescent dye, causing it to radiate red light.”

The pink fluorescent ink offers a fast dry time, approx. 2-3 seconds, and has excellent adhesion on substrates such as metal, glass and certain plastics. This makes the ink ideal for coding on to beverage bottle crowns, on to the bottom of aluminium cans, parts marking, track and trace applications and many more.

The ink is for use in the Videojet 1620 Ultra High Speed and 1650 Ultra High Speed inkjet printers (www.videojet.com/cij-inks), designed to deliver more code content for high speed packaging operations. The UHS printers incorporate the Videojet Precision Ink Drop™ system and Videojet’s patented CleanFlow™ technology, and are engineered to enable tri-line code applications to be run at typical dual-line speeds.

In addition, the Videojet 1650 UHS printer offers Code Assurance features that help to eliminate common coding errors by helping operators put the right code on the right product, time after time. On-board productivity tools display information on Printer Availability and Operational Availability, and customers can use this data to help determine what is causing downtime events and take corrective action.

VIDEOJET nêu bật nhu cầu về máy in truyền nhiệt chống chịu rửa trôi

VIDEOJET® Outlines the Need for Washdown-Safe Thermal Transfer Coding

WOOD DALE, Ill. — July 2, 2012 — Food safety, a focus of a recent Videojet whitepaper, has continuously been thrust into the public spotlight with new regulations and requirements introduced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to prevent food borne illnesses and a rising concern among consumers with the use of “pink slime” in beef-based products. A key requirement imposed on manufacturers is a rigorous daily washdown of processing and packaging equipment to prevent contamination. With nearly 92 billion pounds of meat and poultry produced in the United States annually¹ the daily washdown adds a substantial amount of time and cost for companies in the meat and poultry industry.

Also affected by the washdown requirements are thermal transfer overprinting machines, which are located and installed on the production line. During washdowns manufacturers will either uninstall the printer and then re-install it once the washdown is complete – a time consuming and expensive process – or will use a plastic bag to cover the machines, which is a faster method, but has risks where printers are exposed to damaging moisture and dust. Ordinarily, it takes from 30 minutes to an hour to do both the uninstall and reinstall of a single printer on the production line. The costs can increase exponentially when considering the total number of hours associated with these printer uninstalls/reinstalls taking place on numerous production lines.

As illustrated in the Videojet Washdown-Safe Thermal Transfer Coding whitepaper, one solution to meet the FDA washdown requirements, save on costs, and improve productivity is by utilizing Ingress Protection (IP)-rated thermal transfer overprinters. Videojet Technologies Inc., a world-leading manufacturer of coding, printing and laser marking products, fluids and accessories for the product identification industry, outlines the benefits of using IP-rated thermal transfer overprinters, including:

  • Minimal preparation work: It takes 30 seconds to prepare an IP-rated thermal transfer overprinter for washdown as compared to 30 minutes to an hour for the uninstall/reinstall printer process.
  • Low risk of moisture damage: The IP-rated overprinter uses a sealing cover in place of the ribbon cassette during the washdown. Once the washdown is complete, the sealing cover is removed and the cassette is quickly put back into place.
  • Decreased risk of accidental damage to the printer or other equipment: Since the printer is never uninstalled and removed, there is little risk of dropping it or damaging other equipment that is integrated with the printers.

With an ever-changing market and increased attention to food safety, manufacturers are looking for cost-effective ways to comply with government regulations and perform daily washdowns. Companies can greatly benefit from implementing an IP-rated thermal transfer overprinter on their production lines to decrease time and cost while preventing damage to printers or production equipment.

To download Videojet’s Washdown-Safe Thermal Transfer Coding whitepaper and to read more on this timely matter, visit http://www.videojet.com/usa/washdown.

WOOD DALE, Ill. (USA) — December, 2010 — For companies that print large, variable data codes on both porous or nonporous substrates, the new Videojet® 2120 large character inkjet printer from Videojet Technologies Inc. can apply characters on everything from cardboard and paper to plastic and foil. An automated setup wizard makes printer startup easy and fast, and pre-programmed templates help reduce coding errors, maximizing productivity.

Coding flexibility
Multiple printhead and ink options provide the flexibility to configure the industrial inkjet printer for different products and packages, regardless of the substrate. The 700 series printhead and inks are designed for printing characters up to 50 millimeters high on porous materials, such as those used in paper and cardboard packaging. The 800 series printhead and inks work on nonporous surfaces, such as shrink-wrap and a wide range of plastics, and print characters up to 92 millimeters high. To provide additional flexibility, the Videojet 2120 16-valve printheads can print single- or twin-line alphanumeric codes.

Message management templates reduce coding errors
The Videojet 2120 comes pre-programmed with a range of common jobs ready for use. These can be customized easily to meet companies’ specific coding needs. Advanced message management templates reduce operator errors by limiting case coding choices to predefined values.

“Printing an incorrect code can have costly or time-consuming results for a company, especially if incorrectly coded products are placed into distribution.” says Scott Prochaska, Videojet’s business unit manager for secondary packaging. “Products with an incorrect code may have to be removed from store shelves and recoded, leading to extra time and expense. With the Videojet 2120, message management solutions provide extra security to greatly reduce the opportunities for coding errors.”

Easy setup and operation
The Videojet 2120 comes with a setup wizard that guides the installation. Printer setup information and messages can easily be cloned to other printers using standard USB drives. A Remote Database Mode enables an operator to download messages from a centralized database or ERP system.

Videojet Launches New Ink with Exceptional Adhesion for Returnable Bottle Applications

Continuous Inkjet ink innovation formulated to withstand rigors of manufacturing and distribution chain while allowing for easy caustic wash

Chicago, Illinois – February 25, 2015 From cold fill at high speeds to movement throughout the distribution chain, recycled bottling applications require hard-working ink formulations for bottle coding. To meet demanding adhesion, durability and wash requirements of bottlers, Videojet is pleased to announce its latest ink innovation for its 1000 Line of Continuous Inkjet (CIJ) printers – V420 and V528. Utilizing a unique adhesion promoter and binder chemistry, these new inks offer both exceptional adhesion in variable environments and condensing conditions, and the benefit of easy code removal with caustic wash.

Excited to bring this new formulation to the industry, Heidi Wright, Business Unit Manager for Supplies at Videojet, explains that this development was the direct result of active customer engagement. “We continually partner with our customers to better understand their requirements and then deliver innovative products to meet those criteria. These inks are a prime example of the value we bring to our customers through our dedicated research and development initiatives.”

V420 and V528 are specifically formulated to withstand the challenging conditions that bottles are exposed to, including temperature-variable filling conditions as well as hot, humid and wet environments. Their unique chemistry helps ensure rapid drying and exceptional adhesion in high speed bottling applications. These MEK-based inks offer an ideal balance of resiliency and ease-of-use, maintaining their code quality until the bottles go through the caustic wash process upon their return, at which time the codes can be easily removed by the bottler.  Both inks are for use with Videojet 1000 Line printers, though the V528 is specifically designed for the Ultra High Speed model.

Wright concludes, “Extensive tests were performed to verify the performance of these new inks and they were shown to exceed other offerings in the marketplace. We are very excited to announce these new inks that will help our customers to not only achieve the outstanding code quality they are accustomed to, but they can also benefit from increased performance in variable and harsh environments throughout the manufacturing and distribution chain.”

With 40 plus years of ink development experience, Videojet continues to invest significant resources to create leading coding and ink solutions for a vast range of substrates and applications. Addressing a variety of customer challenges, Videojet continuously monitors packaging trends, regulations, and customer needs to innovate and help ensure that Videojet solutions meet manufacturers’ printing requirements.
